Infectious diseases are transmitted from person to person by direct or indirect contact with the infected persons. These diseases may be caused by certain types of viruses, bacteria, parasites and fungi. In a hospital set up transmission may occur due to contact with health care worker's hands. Hands become contaminated through contact with the patient and the environment and thus serve as an effective vector of transmission. This is mostly for communicable diseases which involves transmission due to direct contact with an infected individual.
