Teams of computer scientists and biology students work together to develop a simulated experiment on mutations in mice. The simulation is programmed with the complete sequence of mouse DNA. Then it calculates the frequency of mutations under three conditions: when the mice are subjected to tobacco smoke, subjected to ultraviolet radiation, and kept under normal conditions. For each mutation, the simulation identifies whether the mutation affects a mouse protein.

when the mice are exposed to tobacco smoke and ultraviolet radiation, mutation will occur.

    Explanation:

Mutation refers to the sudden change which occurs in the genetic makeup of an organisms. There are various agents which are responsible for mutation but in this experiment only two are used such as tobacco smoke and ultraviolet radiation. When the mice is exposed to tobacco smoke, mutation occurs due to the formation of abnormal cells which causes cancer because tobacco smoke contains cancer causing agents while when the mice are exposed ultraviolet radiation, mutation will occur by causing damage to the DNA of mice and cause of producing abnormal cells. But in normal condition, mutation will not occur.
