DNA profiling is also called DNA fingerprinting. A common misconception about DNA fingerprinting is that the analysis has to do with actual fingerprints. Explain one similarity and one difference between a human being's pattern of bands on an electrophoresis gel and a human fingerprint.

No, there is no relation between DNA fingerprinting and actual fingerprints.

    Explanation:

In DNA fingerprinting, a solution converted into the form of gel is used to

differentiate DNA molecules that move with different speed. A DNA molecule of large size moves slowly while a DNA molecule of smaller size moves rapidly.

In gel electrophoresis, DNA molecules are separated based on size. Bands of DNA are formed when DNA molecule fall into discrete sizes. These bands occur in the form of small rectangular bands with each band signifying a specific size.
