The coagulation system is characterized by the action of plasma proteases (coagulation factors) in the form of zymogens (pro-enzymes), by which, when activated, give rise to the active proteases (enzymes) that initiate a cascade reaction, leading to the conversion of plasma fibrinogen in fibrin polymers, forming the clot. The fibrin network stabilizes the platelet lid, accumulating red blood cells and leukocytes, giving rise to the thrombus.
