Mineralocorticoids belong to a class of corticoids that are considered as steroid hormones as well. They affect the electrolyte composition of body fluids, in other words, they control the balance between salt and water in our bodies. They are produced in the adrenal cortex. Aldosterone is the primary mineralocorticoid that primarily acts on the kidney.
