There are a lot of factors that are important in the development of flower which can be associated with the length of the night. First, temperature. Temperature is an important factor in pollination. If it is more favorable for a flower to pollinate at warmer temperature then, longer nights will decrease the flowering probability. There are also other factors such as sunlight, etc.
