what is different about synthesis of the lagging strand compared to synthesis of the leading strand

    The leading strand is synthesized continuously and one long strand is formed. In the lagging strand, small fragments are synthesized and they are discontinuous. They are finally joined by DNA ligase to form a continuous strand.
