    C) The area changed from water to land with trees.

    Explanation:

As the area was once filled with water as suggested by the shale rocks and has the deposits of limestone and hence the imprints of the leaves on the rocks were formed at the time when the fossils like fish were found to be swimming in the lake or seas. Thus the development of the area took place and water dried up form the lake or get seashore and thus sedimentary rocks had the imprints of the fossils on them.
