Seed dispersal is the dispersal of seed away from the parent plant. By dispersing seeds there is less competition between seeds. The act of seed dispersal includes three phases: departure, transfer and settlement.

There are five different dispersal mechanism: wind (anemochory) water (hydrochory), gravity (barochory), ballistic and dispersal done by animals (zoochory). In the past most effective was the zoochory, but today the most effective seed dispersal is the seed dispersal done by humans, because of the big technology boom.
