    Excitability

    Explanation:

A property of cell which allows it to respond to any stimulation which occurs by a change in its membrane potential is called as Excitability. This change in membrane potential is brought about by the movement of different ions in and out of the cell through the plasma membrane. Muscle cells and Neurons have this ability. There are many channels in the plasma membrane which open and facilitate the transfer of specific ions across membrane. Due to transfer of the ions the ion concentration gradient across the membrane changes which affects the membrane potential.
