The answer is D. Precambrian rocks hold some, but not much, evidence of complex life. It is the lack of hard parts that caused the minimal fossil record of the Precambrian. Precambrian is definitely NOT a reason for the lack of a fossil record. The others are reasons for a lack of a fossil record.
