The function of the xylem is to transport water.

    Explanation:

Xylem can be described as a vascular tissue which transports water from the roots to other parts of the plant. Xylem cells form a long tube-like structure for the water to move. The mixture of water and some nutrients that pass through the xylem is known as a xylem sap.

On the contrary, phloem id the vascular tissue which is involved in the transportation of food from the leaves to other parts of the plant.
