Plate movement causes mountains to continue to rise after they form. The Sierra Nevada in California and Nevada uplifts an average of 1.5 millimeters every year. At this rate, the number of years it will take the mountains to rise 225 centimeters is years.

    The answer is; 1500 years

    It is important to note the following about the SI units;

    10 millimeter = 1 centimeter

    Therefore 225 centimeters = 2250 millimeters

    If it takes I year for the mountain to rise 1.5 millimeters then it will take;

    2250/1.5 = 1500 years to rise to 225 centimeters
