Photosynthesis enables plants to synthesize their own food. This increases their chances of survival, and more plant species evolve to inhabit the earth. In the ocean also, organisms utilize light to prepare food and release carbon dioxide, which increases the temperature of the earth and makes it suitable to live upon. Rocks are solidified by the process, as the growth of plants and algae prevents their erosion and sliding.
