    By definition, prokaryotes lack a membrane-bound nucleus to carry their chromosomes. Instead, the chromosome of a prokaryote is found in an exceedingly a part of the cytoplasm called a nucleoid. Prokaryotes generally have one circular chromosome that occupies a district of the cytoplasm called a nucleoid.
