Some plants can reproduce through two different propagation methods. A cutting from the parent plant can be transplanted into soil and produce an identical copy of the plant. Alternatively, the plant's flowers can be pollinated and the offspring can be grown from seed. Which method would be produced by mitosis and which method is produced by meiosis?

Cutting from parent plant - mitosis

Pollination of flower and seed production - meiosis

    Explanation:

Mitosis involves the division of vegetative cells while meiosis involves the division of sex cells.

A cutting from the parent plant is a vegetative cell and hence, this method of propagation is produced by mitosis.

Pollination of flowers involves the transfer of pollen grains (male gamete) from the anther of a flower to the ovule (the female gamete) of the stigma of the same or another flower. The production of male and female gamete requires a division of the sex cells by meiosis. Hence, this method is produced by meiosis.

Answer:cutting from a parent plant is asexual require mitosis, planting from the seeds (sexual propagation) require meiosis.

Explanation:asexual propagation require mitosis to produce offspring that are genetically identical to the parent, however when they reproduce sexually through the seeds, they use meiosis to produce haploid cells that have half the genetic information of the parents.
