Differentiate between swallowing and peristalsis

    The phenomenon of swallowing is consciously done which means this action is voluntary.

    On the other hand, the phenomenon of peristalsis is done unconsciously done which means that this action is involuntary.

    Swallowing can be described as a process in which a bolus of food or some liquid passes into the esophagus.

    Peristalsis can be defined as the contraction of the smooth muscles of the stomach due to which the digestive food matter moves through various parts of the digestive system.
