Answer: Haploid cells have 23 chromosomes while diploid cells have 46 (23 pairs) chromosomes

Explanation: Haploid cells are produced in a type of cell division called meiosis. In meiosis, parent cells undergo two cell divisions to produce four daughter cells with half the number of chromosomes in the parent cell. Diploid cells are produced by a type of cell division known as mitosis. In mitosis, parent cells undergo one cell division to produce two identical daughter cells that have the same number of chromosomes as the parent cell. Gametes undergo meiosis while somatic cells undergo mitosis.
