    The sympathetic nervous system

    Explanation:

Betty's escape is best described as a "fight or flight" response. This is caused by the secretion of adrenaline. Adrenaline is secreted by the adrenal glands in response to a stimulus which is usually a stressor. This causes increased sweating, heavier breathing and providing the muscles with the oxygen they require for "flight" Adrenaline is a hormone which is regulated by the sympathetic nervous system.
