    The energy released is stored in form of ATP which is then later used for different purposes such as

    - movement - eg muscle contraction

    - active transport of substances in/out of the cell thru the cell membrane

    - synthesis of complex organic molecules (eg proteins) from simpler ones known as anabolism.

    And many many other roles.
