Heat from the sun may warm the Earth when greenhouse gases absorb infrared radiation (IR), which you cannot see but can feel as heat. Dark surfaces also play a huge role in heating up Earth's surface, as they reflect less light and absorb most of the energy from the sun, in contrast to lighter surfaces, which reflect more light than it absorbs.
