A neuron has 3 basic parts; namely the dendrites, the cell body or the soma, and the axon. Axons are "coated" by a myelin sheath as an insulator to improve conduction velocity.

The detection of neural impulses occurs at the dendrites which receive the impulses from another neuron. There will be generation of the message at the base of the axon called the axon hillock. Transmission will occur as the synaptic vesicles are stimulated to fuse with the terminal axon cell membrane where their contents are freed in the synapse.

Integration happens in the brain where all responses are integrated into a sensory reaction or a motor response.
