I have always enjoyed eating tuna f sh. unfortunately, a study of the mercury content of canned tuna in 2010 found that chunk white tuna contains 0.6 ppm hg and chunk light tuna contains 0.14 ppm. 2 the u. s. environmental protection agency recommends no more than 0.1 mg hg/kg body weight per day. i weigh 68 kg. how often may i eat a can containing 6 ounces (1 lb 5 16 oz) of chunk white tuna so that i do not average more than 0.1 mg hg/kg body weight per day? if i switch to chunk light tuna, how often can i eat one can?

    If the body weight is 68kg and the recommendation is to consume less than 0.1 mg hg/kg body weight per day, then the recommendation limit would be less than: 0.1 mg hg/kg * 68kg = 6.8mg hg/day.

    The number of chunk white tuna that could be consumed would be: 6.8mg hg/day / (0.6 * 10^-6 hg * 6 ounches/can * 28349.5mg/ounches) = 6.66 can/day

    The number of chunk light tuna that could be consumed would be: 6.8mg hg/day / (0.14 * 10^-6 hg * 6 ounches/can * 28349.5mg/ounches) = 28.55 can/day
