Why might you expect fluorocitrate to have an inhibitory effect on one or more of the TCA cycle enzymes if incubated with the purified enzymes in vitro, even though fluoroacetate has no effect?

    This is because tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle is central to cellular energy production in the mitochondria of higher organisms and fluoroacetate interrupts the TCA cycle.
