The soil water content directly affects the rate of water absorption of water by the roots.

Soil temperature also increases the rate of water uptake by the roots. In colder regions, water uptake is very slow.

Soil air affects the same, as energy is required for the uptake of water, which is produced during respiration, which needs oxygen. Waterlogged soils have less soil air, and growth of the plant is altered.
