What is the significant difference between 9-fluorenone and 9-fluorenol that allows reaction progress to be monitored by tlc?

    As the sodium borohydride and methanol responds with fluorenone it turns out to be more polar as it forms to fluorenol and so changes less on the TLC plate. Ever since TLC plates respond with polarity it can be observed the progress of the reaction.
