Interstate 95 seem to follow the fall line because it was designed to go around rapids and waterfalls

    Explanation:

The extreme side of the coastal plain of Virginia that has a chain of rapids and falls as its mark and which has rivers flowing around it is remarkably known as - Fall line. This observation was performed by John Smith first. This line has remarkable impact on Virginian geology.

The line of falls around it prevented the way of ships and led to the formations of some cities of Virginia. The connecting line of major cities of east coast, the Interstate 95 runs parallel to the fall line. This actually seems that it follows the fall line.
