    Neurohypophysis

    Explanation:

The pituitary gland consists of two lobes - the anterior and posterior lobe. The posterior lobe of the pituitary is known as neurohypophysis and it serves an endocrine function as it stores the hormone oxytocin and vasopressin that is produced by the hypothalamus and secretes it whenever required, By releasing the two hormones the posterior lobe is responsible for maintaining the fluid balance of the body as well as the reproductive functions. The neurohypophysis receives a mass of nerve fibres that originates from the supraoptic and paraventricular nuclei belonging to the hypothalamus.
