    The term vertebrate defines all of the familiar large animals and some rare and unusual ones as well.

    There are 7 vertebrate classes:

    1. Agnatha-j awless fish that do not have scales.

    2. Chondrichthyes - Fish that have skeletons

    3. Osteichthyes - bony fish

    4. Amphibia - Frogs, toads, and salamanders

    5. Reptilia - turtles, snakes, lizards, alligators, and other large reptiles

    6. Aves - all birds

    7. Mammalia - Dogs, cats, bears, humans and most other large animals
