A steroid hormone will first enter the plasma membrane of the cell as it can easily diffuse through the plasma membrane. Then it interacts with its respective receptor. The binding of hormone to its receptor changes the shape of the hormone, after which, the hormone along with receptor is able to enter the nucleus. Once inside nucleus, the hormone-receptor complex will interact with DNA and cause synthesis of relevant mRNA molecules which will then be translated into proteins at ribosomes. Hence, this is how a steroid hormone will approach a target cell and cause appropriate changes to occur.
