    The answer is D.

Photosynthesis is the process through which plants utilize water and carbon dioxide to form glucose and oxygen. This process enables plants to "make their own food"; however, they still have to "eat their food". The reaction involved in "eating" is respiration. During respiration, energy from glucose is released by reacting it with oxygen to form carbon dioxide and water.
