    Respiratory acidosis happens when the lungs failed to remove the carbon dioxide from the blood. Obstruction of the respiratory tract or inflammation in the alveolus can reduce the gas exchange capability of the lungs. Carbon dioxide is acid so higher CO2 will lower the pH of the blood, causing acidosis.
