An animal inherits a mutation in a gene that produces dark pigment proteins that are expressed in the animal’s skin tissue. If the mutation terminates the gene’s ability to be expressed, what would be the most likely effect on the animal?

    Melanin will not be produced and this will result in albinism.

    Explanation:

    Albinism can be described as a condition which arises when there is little or no melanin production in an individual's body. It is considered to be an inherited disorder. This kind of disorder mostly occurs when mutations terminate the working of the enzyme tyrosinase. This enzyme is involved in the synthesis of melanin from the amino acid tyrosine. Hence, the termination of this enzyme will lead to the termination of melanin production.
