The geosphere and biosphere has co-evolved. It has been understood that life has evolved from organic matter over 4 billions year ago. The changes in the composition of water bodies influence the geophysical changes on the earth that in turn influences the evolution of new life on the earth.

Ocean and atmosphere are known to appear over 4.5 billions years ago. The earth was also newly born and eruption of volcanoes added gases to the atmosphere. Water also started flowing from the oceans into smaller water bodies to form seas, rivers, lakes and ponds. The earth was also in its beginning phase of the life where interaction between heat, gases, water, minerals were taking place. These interactions also led to the origin of life on the earth.

The Earth's atmosphere began to change with the course of time and 4 billions years ago, it had the atmosphere and climate to support the first life.
