    Only prokaryotic organisms are able to obtain their energy from inorganic compounds. Quimiolithotrophs use reduced inorganic compounds as an energy source, therefore they do not depend directly on sunlight, but are characterized by using inorganic sources, on the other hand. Chemoautotrophs or chemosynthetic organisms are those capable of using reduced inorganic compounds as substrates to obtain energy and to use it in the respiratory metabolism. It is a faculty known by the name of chemosynthesis. These may be chemoautotrophs or chemoheterotrophs
