    The recommended type of questions, based on American medical association, are indirect questions. If you approach the elderly woman, asking "Are you being abused?", the woman will most likely say no.

    Most appropriate would be: "Are you afraid of anybody at home or anyone who enters your home?" "Has anyone ever physically hurt you?", "Are you alone a lot?"
