The mass of fibrocartilage that fills the gap between two ends of a broken bone in the early stages of healing is called fibrocartilage callus.

A fibrocartilage callus is a temporary formation of fibroblasts and chondroblasts which forms between the two ends of a broken bone as the bone attempts to heal itself. Formation of fibrocartilage callus is slower in cortical bones than in cancellous bones and it is also slower in adults than in children.
