Carbohydrate loading involves tapering the intensity of workouts while increasing carbohydrate intake for several days before a competition. Carbohydrate loading is usually done about one week before a high-endurance activity. Because carbohydrate intake is increased, intake of foods high in fat must be lessened. A day before the event, the person must rest completely.
