Why is it sometimes advantageous to benchmark performance against a non-competitor?

    Benchmarking is a tool to achieve something benchmark such as best performance in a company or against competitors. It is sometimes advantageous to benchmark performance against a non-competitor because benchmarking with non-competitors gives an edge of competing with the competitors by getting practices of a non-competitor company.
