What is true of a rock layer that has had another rock layer deposited on top of it?

    The bottom layer is bedrock than gravel or rocks. The top layer has dirt.

    The rock layer on the bottom will decompose and either turn to sand, gravel, or blend in with the dirt (but most likely not the last one).
