During the Black Death, many Europeans turned to the church for a cure, praying to God. Religious reactions took two extreme forms: the rise of the flagellants and the persecution of Jews.
Basically the rise of the flagellants refers to more people who beat themselves or others because they believed it would appease God, who would in turn end the Black Death.
The persecution of Jews is one we have seen throughout history, one notable example from World War II. This happened again during this period.
Furthermore, many Europeans became desperate. Doctors wore these weird "bird" masks, believing it would protect them, and bloodletting became a normal practice. Thing was, bloodletting would only make the issue worse. Overall, numerous deaths resulted from the Black Death.
