A cell is said to be hypotonic when the water outside the cell membrane is much than the ones present in the cell. A cell is said to be hypertonic when there is higher concentration of water within the cell organelles compared to the ones outside the cell. A cell is said to be an isotonic solution when there is equal amount of water solution within and outside the cell organelles

The difference between hypertonic and hypotonic solution is the Concentration of solute and solvent.

Hypertonic solution contains more solute concentration and high solvent concentration.

Hypotonic solution contains less solute concentration and low solvent concentration.
