    The answer is the reticular formation. The Reticular Formation is the one behind our consciousness, it makes us conscious of our surroundings. It basically makes us conscious, once it sustains damage, the individual may experience coma. The Reticular Formation is a group of diffuse network nerve pathways, located in the brain stem, which connects the spinal cord, cerebellum and cerebrum. Causing the normal consciousness in our body.
