Rocks can take multiple different paths on becoming a different rock and this is possible because there is no specific path that determines what a rock will turn into. One example would be when a metamorphic rock becomes a sedimentary rock because of erosion or because of deposition, but the metamorphic rock wasn't originally igneous rock which usually makes sedimentary rock. Another example would be when igneous rock turns into metamorphic rock when it undergoes the process that makes sedimentary rock (undergoing a lot of pressure and heat). Even though that process usually makes sedimentary rock, it can make a metamorphic rock. There is no guarantee of what a rock can become and thats one of the things that makes rocks so interesting.
