    Goodpasture's syndrome is an autoimmune disease which involves the damaging of the lungs' and kidneys' basement membrane by the antibodies. This causes kidney failure and bleeding from the lungs, which can manifest as hemoptysis (coughing up blood), chest pain and shortness of breath. The symptoms associated with the kidneys include hematuria (blood in the urine), protein in the urine, generalised edema and high blood pressure.
