Two defense mechanisms that your body has to fight pathogens is the adaptive immune system and the innate immune system. By not washing your hands, you can get germs that will make you sick. For example, if you are handling uncooked chicken, and put your hands in your mouth without washing them, you can get salmonella poisoning.
