    are heterotrophs that feed on dead and decaying matter. mushrooms are a type of fungi. They consists of individual filaments collectively called hyphae, which form the mycellium. They form visible fruiting bodies above the ground. This body is umbrella shaped and is called the pileus.

    Underneath the pileus are gills, from where the spores drop.

    Mushrooms produces spores as a means of reproduction. When the spores are released, they are carried by agents of dispersal such as water, air etc. when fall on favourable substrates, they germinate to form a single hyphae which then branches to form mycellium.
