What would happen to the possible variation in gametes if the number of chromosome pairs increased from two to three? What if the number increased again from three to four?

The number of possible variation would increase if the chromosome pairs are increased but 4 pairs will show more variation due to non homologous pairing and crossing over between nonsister chromatids which would not be possible in an odd number.
