A taxi charges $2.50 for the first mile and $0.40 for each mile after that. The expression below shows how to find the total cost, in dollars, of a 20-mile taxi ride.

What is the cost of the ride?

    2.50 + (19 x 0.40) = 2.50 + 7.60 = $10.10
