    The surface area of a cell is 6 * side² and volume of a cubical cell is side³.

    Surface area of cell having side 2 cm = 6 * 2 * 2 = 24 cm²

    volume of the cell = 2 * 2 * 2 = 8 cm³

    Therefore, surface area to volume ration is 24:8 = 3 : 1

    If the side of a cell is doubled, then

    Surface area of cell = 6 * 4 * 4 = 96 cm²

    volume of the cell = 4 * 4 * 4 = 64 cm³

    Therefore, surface area to volume ration is 96 : 64 = 3 : 2

    Surface area to volume ratio decreases.
